Philemon is a personal letter that Paul wrote with a specific purpose: to secure the restoration and reconciliation of a slave to his owner. It is a short, one chapter book that is easily overlooked because the basic subject matter of slavery doesn’t hit us where we live, but the book is filled with applications of how we as Christians should live, and in many ways, gives us a picture of ourselves.
