Understanding the Text: Ephesians 2:1-10
You were…
- dead in sin
- following this world
- following Satan
- following fleshly passions and desires
- under God’s wrath
But God…
- is rich in mercy
- loved you greatly
- made you alive in Christ
- saved you by grace
- raised you with Christ
- seated you with Christ
- will show you immeasurable grace and kindness forever
- gave you the gift of faith
Your salvation…
- is by grace through faith
- is a gift of God
- is not a result of works
- produces good works
Sola Gratia: Grace Alone
Understanding the Text: Romans 3: 9-31
- No one is righteous, seeks God or does good
- All are accountable to God
- The law cannot save and shows that all are sinners
- Righteousness has been revealed in Christ
- All have sinned and fall short of God’s standard
- But, those who believe in Christ are justified by faith
- Justification in Christ is a gift of God’s grace
- Christ fully satisfies God’s requirements
- Christ demonstrates God’s righteousness
- There is therefore no place for human boasting
- Justification is by faith-not the works of the law
- Only those justified by faith can fulfill the law
Applying the Text
- Give praise to God alone for your salvation!
- Live in obedient gratitude to God
