Study Notes

Modern day “Come and See” Disciple(John 1:38-39)

  1. Has trusted Jesus as their Lord and Savior (They are “Born Again”).
  2. They are not quite sure how they fit in at church yet, but they are willing to attend services to get to know other Christians.
  3. They like asking the Pastor questions after service to “pick his brain”, and let him know that they are part of his flock.
  4. They are learning a lot of new doctrine, and their minds and hearts are being changed rather quickly by what they are learning about Jesus.

Modern day “Come and Follow” Disciple(John 1:43-45)

  1. They have Christian friends that are helping them to understand the importance of Bible reading and prayer.
  2. They are beginning to practice regular bible reading and prayer time on their own.
  3. They have found a ministry that they can comfortably be a part of and continue to grow in.
  4. They are starting to feel “plugged in” and are happy to be a part God’s team at their church.

Modern day “Come and Be With Me” Disciple(Mark 3:14, John 4:1-2)

  1. They have made regular bible reading and prayer time a priority in their life.
  2. They are more comfortable sharing their faith now, and have become part of a small group or a Bible study.
  3. They are learning to trust Jesus more now because of what He has done for them and shown them in their lives.
  4. They are starting to practice doing ministry along side a mentor or as a team member.

Modern day “Remain in Me and Go and Make Disciples” Disciple(John 15:5-8,Matthew 28:18-20)

  1. They have made regular bible reading and prayer time a higher priority in their life.
  2. They understand that obedience to what Jesus has taught them so far is the only way to get closer to their Savior.
  3. They understand that Jesus wants to improve their character, and that He often does this when they are uncomfortable. (They become accountable).
  4. They are willing to love and lead others towards their savior, even when it means making sacrifices.
  5. They understand that working against resistance makes them stronger.
  6. They make the great commandment and great commission their highest priority, because they know it’s most important to Jesus.
  7. They never forget where they came from, and make it their mission field.
