Study Notes
Modern day “Come and See” Disciple(John 1:38-39)
- Has trusted Jesus as their Lord and Savior (They are “Born Again”).
- They are not quite sure how they fit in at church yet, but they are willing to attend services to get to know other Christians.
- They like asking the Pastor questions after service to “pick his brain”, and let him know that they are part of his flock.
- They are learning a lot of new doctrine, and their minds and hearts are being changed rather quickly by what they are learning about Jesus.
Modern day “Come and Follow” Disciple(John 1:43-45)
- They have Christian friends that are helping them to understand the importance of Bible reading and prayer.
- They are beginning to practice regular bible reading and prayer time on their own.
- They have found a ministry that they can comfortably be a part of and continue to grow in.
- They are starting to feel “plugged in” and are happy to be a part God’s team at their church.
Modern day “Come and Be With Me” Disciple(Mark 3:14, John 4:1-2)
- They have made regular bible reading and prayer time a priority in their life.
- They are more comfortable sharing their faith now, and have become part of a small group or a Bible study.
- They are learning to trust Jesus more now because of what He has done for them and shown them in their lives.
- They are starting to practice doing ministry along side a mentor or as a team member.
Modern day “Remain in Me and Go and Make Disciples” Disciple(John 15:5-8,Matthew 28:18-20)
- They have made regular bible reading and prayer time a higher priority in their life.
- They understand that obedience to what Jesus has taught them so far is the only way to get closer to their Savior.
- They understand that Jesus wants to improve their character, and that He often does this when they are uncomfortable. (They become accountable).
- They are willing to love and lead others towards their savior, even when it means making sacrifices.
- They understand that working against resistance makes them stronger.
- They make the great commandment and great commission their highest priority, because they know it’s most important to Jesus.
- They never forget where they came from, and make it their mission field.
