Coronavirus Update: March 18, 2020

WLBC Family,

Our daily lives have all changed dramatically in the past couple of weeks.  Our God, and the mission and ministries of the church, however, have not changed.  But, in light of the coronavirus pandemic, how we will be going about the mission and ministries of the church will need to change for a while.  Following the recommendations of the CDC and our governing authorities, we are canceling all worship services and other gatherings of the church until at least the end of March.  We will then re-evaluate the situation and hope to resume our in-person services as quickly as we can safely do so.

In the mean time, here are some things we want you to know:

1. Specifically, the following events are cancelled:

  • Awana and Adult Bible Study (March 18 & 25)
  • Movie Night (March 21)
  • Sunday School, Wonder Lake Bible Institute & Worship Service (March 22 & 29)
  • Men’s Group (March 26)
  • Chili Cook Off Challenge (April 4)
  • LAMBS is suspended indefinitely

Lord willing, we hope to be able to resume afterwards, but we will see where things stand at that point.

*** Please Note:  You can always check the official church calendar on our website if you are ever in doubt as to whether or not an event is being held.  We make every effort to keep that as up to date as possible. ***

2. Although we will not be meeting together for at least the next couple of weeks, the mission and ministries of the church will continue.  We are going to livestream a simplified worship service which you can watch on the WLBC Facebook page.  We will send out a reminder with a separate link for that later.  Pastor Dan will be sending out regular emails with updates and words of encouragement and instruction in the Word.  Our elders and deacons will be assigned a group of people to call for prayer and encouragement and to make sure that needs are being met.  We realize that some members of our church family are more vulnerable at this time and we seek to prioritize their care.

3.  Pray.  Pray for our government leaders and our medical officials and caregivers.  Pray for those who are sick, and for those who care for them.  Pray for those who are grieving the loss of loved ones.  Pray for those who are facing economic hardship because of this.  Pray that God will work for good in all of this in our lives, in the church and in our society.

These events have been a stern reminder of how quickly life can change.  Perhaps it has caused us to realize once again how many things we take for granted, including the privilege of meeting together regularly with God’s people.  We have been shown again how we must not put our trust in ourselves or in the things of this world.  Rather, our trust must be in God alone who will repeatedly prove Himself faithful.  He is our solid rock, our hope of eternal life and the One who will one day make all things new.

Love in Christ,

Pastor Dan

Sunday Worship Service and Awana – Coronavirus Update

WLBC Family,

You have undoubtedly received many communications this week regarding the rapidly evolving coronavirus situation. We are monitoring the situation and will be following the recommendations of medical professionals and our governing authorities. The best information resource for this is the CDC.

We are planning to have our Sunday morning worship service as usual this Sunday morning, March 15 at 10:15 a.m.  As usual, we will make a recording of the service available on our Facebook page and on our podcast later that day.

The Awana meetings on Wednesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 25 are canceled.

The best practices we should all be following include washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes, wiping down surfaces and staying home if sick. The recommendation from governing authorities at this time is to cancel events which involve 250 or more people, so that does not pertain to our worship services. We think it prudent for those of our church family who are older, have underlying health conditions or are otherwise immunocompromised to consider staying home for now. Also, it is wise to avoid shaking hands. The elders will be meeting this Sunday morning to discuss further matters such as Awana.

The most important thing we can do, however, is pray. Lord willing, we will all do that this Sunday morning in our worship service. Pray for those who are sick and for wisdom for our leaders. Pray that God will work for good in all of this, and that people may turn to Him and find eternal hope in Christ.

One thing we absolutely must NOT do is become fearful and anxious. As we all recently heard from God’s Word:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

In God’s peace,

Pastor Dan
