GENESIS AND SCIENCE

 As we saw in our previous series, Genesis is a book of beginnings.  It documents the beginning of space, time, matter, energy, stars and planets.  In it, we see the beginning of the earth: water, air, land, plant life, animal life and human beings in God’s image.  It also documents the beginning of sin and the beginning of redemption as God promised the coming of a Messiah.  But, it also raises questions about how the book’s teaching relates to modern science with specific regard to the when and how of creation.  It is a challenging question, and followers of Christ have staked out varying positions on that issue.  But whatever position one holds, we must unite in the essential truths of creation and Creator and learn to speak to our culture about their significance.

In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.
