Biblical discipline is God’s loving correction and training of His people so that they grow in holiness, obedience, and faith. It is not merely punishment – it is formative, fatherly training designed to shape the character of those who belong to Him.
Biblical Discipline…
- flows from God’s love
- is different from condemnation
- has several purposes
- correct sin
- train in holiness
- produce spiritual fruit
- teach dependence on God
- can take many forms
- Consequences of our actions
- Spiritual conviction
- Correction through Scripture
- Rebuke from other believers
- Circumstantial hardship
- Loss of comfort or stability
- requires a proper response
NOT ignoring it, or resenting it…
RATHER, humble submission and repentance
- is evidence of true belonging to God
Applying the Text
- Reject fear of man and embrace fear of the LORD
- Trust in God’s promises
- Endure discipline with faith and hope
