Our study in the Book of Revelation continues

Since January, our current sermon series, Revelation: The End of the Beginning, has been taking a look at the Book of Revelation.  Revelation offers blessing, warning and hope for all who read and obey its message of God’s final triumph over evil. In this final book of the New Testament, we see the end of the beginning of God’s story of redemption for His fallen creation.  This series explores the content of this book and investigates different interpretive approaches surrounding it.

In the past ten weeks we’ve looked at the first 15 chapters of Revelation.  Here are some highlights so far.

  • Part 1 investigates the different interpretive approaches to this book.  Part 6 also revisits the interpretive challenge, focusing on dispensationalism in particular.
  • The seven letters to the churches are discussed in Part 3 and Part 4.  The commendation, rebuke, exhortation, and promise presented in each of these seven letters offers some application points for our lives.
  • The number seven appears many times in this book and has a symbolic meaning.  The meaning of numbers in Revelation is discussed at the beginning of Part 3.
  • “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” This passage (and the hymn based on it) is discussed in Part 5.
  • Regardless of the great devastation brought by God’s judgment upon the earth, most people will still refuse to repent of their sin. Part 7 and Part 8 look at the seven trumpet judgements released on the earth.
  • Israel, Satan, The Lord Jesus Christ, Michael the Archangel, followers of Christ, the Antichrist, and the False Prophet are the seven prominent figures of the end times discussed in Part 9 and Part 10.
